Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Escherichia Coli Isolated from Selected Dairy Farms in and Around Mekelle, Ethiopia

Milk is the fluid normally secreted by female mammals for the nourishment of their young ones. It is a compulsory part of daily diet for the expectant mothers as well as growing children. Milk and milk products are ideal foods for all age groups in both rural and urban people all around the world [1]. Milk is defined to be the lacteal secretion, practically free from colostrums, obtained by the complete milking of one or more healthy cows, 5 days after and 15 days before parturition [2]. Raw untreated milk is still used by large number of farm families and workers and by a growing segment of the general population who believe that the milk is not only safe but also imparts beneficial health effects that are destroyed by pasteurization [3].
